The Ophthalmologists and Optometrists at Heartland Eye Care Place are great. They are thorough and competent. The problem with the clinic is the staff in the glasses/contacts area. I have lived in the Ottumwa area for the last 3 years and have continued to go to the clinic, only because of the physicians. Be prepared to have little to no follow up care with any appointments and NEVER get a call back. The staff must think that it is the client's responsibility to call back and inquire about contacts coming in and/or glasses. 2 1/2 weeks will go by and I will have no phone call back. If I call them to inquire, the answer is, "Well, we only order them, we can't control when they come in..." Do they not realize that glasses can be made in 1 hour? The technology to perform such feats has been the case for at least the last 20 years or more. Contacts can be easily ordered online and received within a day or two. Some of the staff's performance in the optical department is less than poor. If the system that the Heartland Eye Care Place is that outdated, the management should look at changing the system and hiring competent help, keeping with the quote, "If a business is not moving forward, they are falling behind."
I realize it is the day after Christmas but the recording indicated that service was still available. As a minimum, the recording should be correct or more importantly, there should be someone available to take emergency calls and set up appointments for urgent needs. The answering service was completely non-responsive and offered no help to rectify the situation--especially for out of town caregivers of a long time Ottumwa resident who needs an appointment on Monday, Dec. 29th and has been a cliet for many years.
